Hazemeijer Hengelo: Defining Sustainable Goals for a Historic Industrial Landmark
The historic industrial site of Hazemeijer Hengelo is one of the demonstration cases of INBLANC.
Originally established in 1914 by Floris Hazemeijer, it continues to evolve as a vibrant center for innovation and sustainability. Once a thriving production facility for electrical equipment such as switches and instruments, the site now spans approximately 3 hectares, encompassing eight original factory halls with a total gross floor area of around 28,000 m².
Over the past several months, the consortium behind the project has been working intensively to define clear objectives for the Hazemeijer Hengelo case. These objectives focus on multiple key performance indicators, including environmental impact, energy performance and human comfort. To support this, a comprehensive set of target values has now been established, forming the foundation for the next stages of design and implementation.
Currently, INBLANC is developing strategies for the integration of smart monitoring systems. These systems will enable real-time measurement and analysis of parameters such as energy consumption and indoor environmental quality. This data-driven approach will help ensure that sustainability goals are met while maintaining optimal conditions for users and visitors alike.
A unique aspect of the Hazemeijer Hengelo project is its dynamic character. The complex continues to evolve with new tenants and changing user profiles during the project, meaning that adaptability is central to every design and operational decision.
